Ecommerce Baithak: the founders and hosts

Behind every Ecommerce Baithak episode are four people who work in Pakistani ecommerce every day: Haider Ahmed Qazi, Omer Mubeen, Syed Jahangir Ali and Chaudhry Waleed Shahbaz. This guide profiles each one in detail: their experience, what they offer the ecommerce community, and the numbers behind their work, with public sources set beside what they say about themselves.

The market they work in, from outside sources

    $5.78 billionPakistan ecommerce revenue in 2025 (estimate), growing 10–15% a year6
117 millioninternet users in Pakistan, 45.6% of the population7
88%of retail payments were digital in FY25, up from 78% in FY238
93%of online purchases were paid through accounts or wallets in FY25, up from 87%8
684 millionecommerce transactions through accounts or wallets in FY258
~70%of Pakistani shoppers still prefer cash on delivery9
    18–20%typical return-to-origin rate on cash-on-delivery parcels9

The State Bank figures cover electronic payments. Cash on delivery is not an electronic payment, so it sits outside them, which is why a 93% wallet share and a 70% cash preference can both be true. Market-size figures are estimates and research firms measure differently.

    Welcome to the Baithak

    What Ecommerce Baithak is

Ecommerce Baithak is a Pakistani ecommerce podcast and video series. A baithak is an unhurried sit-down where people talk shop, and that is the format: founders, brand owners and heads of ecommerce explain in plain language what worked, what failed and what it cost.

Host profileDeployers’ own website lists the Ecommerce Baithak video series next to its courses, case studies and seminars, which tells you how the hosts see the show: one part of a wider effort to teach Pakistani ecommerce.10

The four hosts come from different corners of the industry, so a guest gets questions from a retail leader, an association chairman, a technical operator and a teacher. Each profile below follows the same plan: who they are, how they got here, what they offer the community, and the numbers.

Haider Ahmed Qazi: ecommerce guru, industry veteran and professor

More than 15 years in ecommerce

Host profileThe hosts introduce Haider as an ecommerce guru and industry veteran: a professor and teacher of ecommerce, a growth hacker and a digital creator, who by their account has taken different companies from millions to billions. He has spent more than 15 years in ecommerce, his colleagues describe him as the best head of ecommerce in Pakistan, and his Deployers profile uses the same line.11 No public ranking sits behind a title like that, so read it as how the people who work with him describe him. What can be checked is the record below.

His Deployers profile lists work in FMCG, fashion retail, logistics, start-ups, and furniture and home fashion. Haider adds property to that list. The claim is that he has seen ecommerce from nearly every side: brands that sell everyday goods, brands that sell on style, the couriers that deliver, start-ups trying to get noticed, and sellers of high-value items such as furniture and property.

Host profileThe Global Digital Awards team page lists him as GM E-commerce at Stylo Group, responsible for digital strategy, online operations and customer experience, and as Managing Director of the Global Digital Awards.12

Public recordA 2022 ProPakistani article, which was sponsored content, described him as holding an M.Phil, with more than a decade in ecommerce, and as having taught at Bahria University, COMSATS University and MAJU. It named him as one of four “brains and trainers” behind Deployers.3

    Seven hats, one ecommerce career

Host profileHaider wears many hats. Here is each one, with what stands behind it.

    • Ecommerce guru. The title the hosts use, with an award as the best ecommerce guru in Pakistan, as supplied.
    • Industry veteran. More than 15 years across FMCG, fashion retail, logistics, start-ups, furniture and property.
    • Ecommerce professor and teacher. An M.Phil with an ecommerce thesis, and ecommerce classes at Bahria, MAJU and COMSATS.113
    • Growth hacker. Meta and Google certified, with a record the hosts sum up as taking different companies from millions to billions.
    • Digital creator. Builds ecommerce content for the community, from Ecommerce Baithak conversations to case studies and training.
    • Trainer to the industry. Training work with and for Alibaba, Gul Ahmed, TCS, Master Group, Chase Value and Stylo, as supplied.
    • Awards-stage leader. Managing Director of the Global Digital Awards.12

The hosts’ phrase “millions to billions” does not say whether the measure is revenue, sales or company value, and no company names or figures are published, so we have not put a number on it.

    How the record builds up

Haider’s path, from classroom to awards stage

The first four steps are not dated publicly. The dated steps come from event and press coverage.

    Credentials and recognition

Host profileHaider is certified by Meta and Google. His Deployers profile adds that Facebook published his digital marketing case studies internationally, that he placed first at the Plan 9 start-up competition for the best ecommerce start-up, and that he has trained at Alibaba.com.11 The hosts also credit him with an award as the best ecommerce guru in Pakistan.

What is on the public record

    • Listed by third parties: the M.Phil, the teaching at Bahria, COMSATS and MAJU, the Deployers trainer role, the Ecommerce Summit 2023 leadership and the Managing Director role at the Global Digital Awards.3134
    • Self-reported only: the Facebook case-study publication, the Plan 9 first place, the Alibaba training, the best-ecommerce-guru award and the millions-to-billions growth.

What Haider offers the ecommerce community

Five ways to learn from him

    1. UniversitiesEcommerce classes at Bahria, MAJU and COMSATS give students the subject before they enter the job market.
    2. Company teamsTraining for retail, logistics and marketing teams, drawing on a record that includes Gul Ahmed, TCS, Master Group, Chase Value and Stylo.
    3. Free learning on Ecommerce BaithakCase-study conversations with Pakistani founders, free to watch.
    4. The awards platformAs Managing Director of the Global Digital Awards he oversees operational execution, technology infrastructure and stakeholder management.12
    5. Speaking and case studiesConference sessions and published case studies turn practice into lessons others can reuse.

    The numbers behind his field

Meta and Google certifications matter because that is where Pakistani shoppers are reached. A certified marketer works with audiences of this size.

The audiences a Meta or Google marketer can reach in Pakistan

    Internet users117 million
    TikTok (adults 18+)79.9 million
    Facebook52.9 million
    Instagram22.4 million
Late 2025. DataReportal stresses that advertising reach is an estimate of the audience an ad tool can reach, not monthly active users. The TikTok figure covers adults aged 18 and over.7

    Outside numbers

    • Pakistan’s ecommerce revenue reached about $5,776 million in 2025, growing 10–15%.6
    • About 71.5–72.0% of shopping carts in Pakistan are abandoned, close to the 70.22% global average Baymard reports. For a marketer, seven of every ten carts that start do not finish.614

The pattern. Study it, run it and teach it. Haider’s record combines all three: an academic thesis, years inside retail ecommerce and a place in the classroom, which is why one set of lessons can serve a boardroom and a lecture hall.

    Chapter 2: Omer Mubeen

    Omer Mubeen: the community builder

    Since 2010

Host profileOmer’s website dates his ecommerce career to 2010. Since then he says he has held head-of-ecommerce or general-manager roles at more than ten national retail brands. It names Edenrobe, BeyondEast, Bachaa Party, Master Group, MINISO Pakistan, TCS E-Com, Cheezmall, Al Rahim Textiles, Kapray and 24Hours.pk.1 As the hosts describe him, he has also worked with Chinese, UK and international brands and with influencers.

Public recordA 2022 ProPakistani article, which was sponsored content, called him a digital marketing and ecommerce expert with more than ten years of experience, and said he had previously headed ecommerce at Edenrobe, Kapray by Zellbury and Beyond East.3

Deployers: from seminars to a school

Host profileDeployers is an online training platform for local ecommerce. Its site lists courses in digital marketing, Facebook, Google, YouTube, Amazon and ecommerce, plus graphic design and website and app development. It also lists a dropshipping course, free seminars, certificates of completion, scholarships and a VIP membership for international ecommerce.10 Deployers describes itself as the official community partner of Nas Academy in Pakistan.3

Deployers School is the training arm. Omer’s site says it has trained more than 80,000 professionals, and a Folklore Magazine article repeats the figure.12 Both trace back to the same organisation, so treat it as self-reported.

    PEA: a voice for sellers

Public recordFolklore Magazine reports that the Pakistan Ecommerce Association was set up as one platform for the industry’s needs, with Omer as founder. It names the problems it targets: limited logistics and internet access, especially in rural areas; unclear rules on tax, business registration and consumer protection; and shoppers’ distrust over online fraud and product quality. Its objectives are to work with government on clear regulation, to push for better payments, logistics and connectivity, to offer training with Deployers School, and to share knowledge. Members get networking, representation, educational resources and annual awards.2

Digital payments as a share of Pakistan’s retail payments

    FY2378%
    FY2485%
    FY2588%

Up ten percentage points in two years

State Bank of Pakistan data as reported by ProPakistani. The ten-point rise is our arithmetic (88 minus 78).8

    Outside numbers

    • Roughly 70% of Pakistani shoppers prefer cash on delivery and more than 30% of adults are unbanked, according to DHL. Return-to-origin rates run 18–20%.9
    • In FY25 about 684 million ecommerce transactions went through accounts or wallets, and 93% of online purchases were made that way, up from 87% in FY24.8
    • PEA says it represents more than 12,000 ecommerce players. Folklore Magazine gives no membership count.

Payments and logistics are two of the problems PEA lists, and the figures show why: the rails are moving to digital, while cash on delivery and returns still shape how sellers operate.

Nine services for brands and founders

Host profileOmer’s website lists nine services for brands and founders.1

    • Ecommerce strategy and roadmap. A 12 to 24 month plan.
    • Brand launch and scaling. Taking a brand from launch to growth.
    • Performance marketing. Paid search and social, SEO, email, SMS, WhatsApp, affiliates and influencers.
    • Website optimisation and CRO. Turning more visits into orders.
    • Team building and leadership. Including an interim Head of eCommerce.
    • Cross-border ecommerce. The UK, UAE, Singapore and Europe.
    • Digital transformation. Moving from offline to online, with ERP, CRM and OMS integration.
    • Two-week diagnostic audit. A fast review of where an ecommerce business stands.
    • Board and founder advisory. Guidance for the people who set direction.

The pattern. Omer turns what he learns inside brands into things the whole market can use: a seminar, a school, an association and an awards night..

    MPAKarachi University, marketing focus17

Syed Jahangir Ali: the technical ecommerce operator

Gul Ahmed, Stylo, Insignia and next Clive

Host profileJahangir is the hosts’ technical ecommerce resource: the person who knows how an online store is built to be found, to load, to convert and to run from day to day. He heads ecommerce at Insignia and is joining Clive in the same role. Before that he worked at Gul Ahmed and TradeKey, according to the hosts.

Public recordA Deployers profile says he began in an executive and officer position, learned key skills under Haider Ahmed Qazi, worked as an SEO expert at Gul Ahmed and then reached the Head of Ecommerce role at Stylo Group.18 TheOrg lists him as Head of Ecommerce at Stylo Pvt Ltd since November 2022, and as Deputy Manager Ecommerce and content specialist at Gul Ahmed Textile Mills, with earlier roles at Jang Group Phonebook Online, Axact and TradeKey in digital marketing, SEO and operations.17

TheOrg also lists a Master’s in Public Administration with a marketing focus and a Bachelor of Commerce, both from Karachi University, and professional credentials from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.17 Both pages are profiles rather than audited records, and only the Stylo role carries a date.

    The ladder, step by step

    Where the community benefits

Public listings keep pointing to the same three areas: SEO, content and operations. That is our reading of where his experience is most useful to a Baithak listener. The show is where he explains them in his own words.

    • Search visibility. SEO is how an unknown store gets found without paying for every click.
    • Site content. Product pages, collection pages and descriptions are what turn a visit into an order.
    • Operations. The day-to-day running of an online store, which is where promises to customers are kept or broken.

The numbers behind the technical side

Technical choices show up in conversion and returns. These are the figures that make the case.

Of 100 mobile visitors, about 53 leave a page that takes more than three seconds

Filled dots are visitors who leave. This is a 2016 Google study, so treat the exact figure as a rough guide rather than today’s number.19

Why shoppers abandon a cart (global)

    Extra costs too high40%
    Delivery too slow20%
    Account creation required18%
    Checkout too long or complicated17%
    Website errors or crashes17%
Baymard Institute’s average across 50 studies, excluding shoppers who were just browsing. Shoppers could give more than one reason.14

    Outside numbers

    • Return-to-origin rates on cash-on-delivery parcels in Pakistan typically run 18–20%, and about 70% of shoppers prefer to pay in cash.9
    • Three of the five abandonment reasons above (account creation, a long checkout and site errors) are fixed by the technical and content work Jahangir’s roles centre on. That link is our reading, not a figure from the study.

The DHL figures are a courier’s view of the market, not a measurement of any one store.

Why it matters. Fix the plumbing before you buy more traffic. A slow page, a forced account or a confusing checkout throws away shoppers you already paid to reach.

Chaudhry Waleed Shahbaz: the teacher and entrepreneur

Teaching Shopify and ecommerce at UCP

Host profileWaleed teaches Shopify and ecommerce at the University of Central Punjab (UCP) and works across the main routes into online selling: a Shopify store, Shopify dropshipping, Amazon and Etsy, backed by a digital marketing agency. The hosts describe him as a teacher, an entrepreneur and an ecommerce philanthropist.

Public recordA ZoomInfo directory entry lists him as an eCommerce Trainer at the University of Central Punjab in Lahore, with an earlier stint as an eCommerce Trainer at Enablers from 2023 to 2025.20 Directory entries are compiled automatically and can be wrong, so this is corroboration, not proof.

    Four routes into online selling

    The routes he works across

    1. Your own store on ShopifyYou own the brand and the customer list. Shopify Basic costs $39 a month, or $29 a month on yearly billing.21
    2. Shopify dropshippingYou sell without holding stock, so the start-up cost is low, but you depend on suppliers for quality and delivery times.
    3. Marketplaces: Amazon and EtsyYou borrow an existing audience and follow the marketplace’s rules and fees.
    4. A digital marketing agencyYou sell skills such as ads, content and store set-up to other businesses.
Our plain-language summary of the routes, not a description of his course content.

    Teaching and giving back

The hosts call Waleed an ecommerce philanthropist: someone who gives time and knowledge back to the community. No specific programmes are published, so we have not described any. What is public is the classroom, where a university trainer teaches students how Shopify and ecommerce work.

The training scene he worked in

    • Enablers, where a directory lists him as a trainer from 2023 to 2025, said in 2019 that it had worked in Pakistan for two years and trained more than 10,000 businesspeople. Its Amazon seminars in Lahore drew 130 and 140 attendees.2220

These are company-reported figures from 2019, before the period in which he is listed at Enablers, so they describe the training scene he worked in, not his own results.

    The numbers behind his topics

Share of named ecommerce platforms, May 2026

    WooCommerce (WordPress)39.0%
    Shopify27.9%
    Wix8.7%
    Squarespace6.6%
    Magento / Adobe Commerce2.2%
HTTP Archive data via GravityKit. Each bar is the platform’s share of the five named ecommerce platforms in that study. Wix and Squarespace may be overstated because they are detected at platform level.23

Shopify’s plan ladder (monthly billing, USD)

    Basic$39 ($29 yearly)
    Grow$105 ($79 yearly)
    Advanced$399 ($299 yearly)
Prices as shown on Shopify’s pricing page. Shopify Plus starts from $2,300 a month and is not drawn.21

    Outside numbers

    • WooCommerce runs on 6.64% of measurable websites and Shopify on 4.76% (May 2026).23
    • Shoppers are 270% more likely to buy a product that has five reviews than one with none, according to Northwestern’s Spiegel Research Center. Trust is a hurdle for any new seller, whichever route they take.24

Why it matters. Pick the route to fit the person, not the trend. A store you own, a marketplace you rent and a service you sell each need different money, skills and patience.

    Chapter 5: The four together

Everything on offer for the community

Put the four profiles together and a pattern appears: a free show, a school, an association, an awards night, consultancy and classrooms. Here is the full menu.

    • Ecommerce Baithak. Free conversations and case studies with Pakistani founders and brand leaders, on YouTube.
    • Deployers and Deployers School. Courses in digital marketing, Facebook, Google, YouTube, Amazon and ecommerce, a dropshipping course, free seminars, certificates, scholarships and a VIP membership for international ecommerce.10
    • Pakistan Ecommerce Association. Advocacy with government on regulation, payments, logistics and connectivity, plus networking and annual awards.2
    • Global Digital Awards. An annual recognition night. The 2025 edition ran on 8 November 2025 at the Nishat Hotel, Lahore.4
    • Ecommerce Summit. A conference with banks, couriers and Meta as partners. The 2023 edition was organised by Deployers and Ginkgo Retail.13
    • Consulting. Omer lists nine services, from a roadmap to a two-week audit.1
    • University classrooms. Haider at Bahria, MAJU and COMSATS and Waleed at UCP.1120

    Host profile versus public record

The hosts’ descriptions are their own account. Here is each major claim beside what public pages say.

    Growth results

Host profileHaider has taken different companies from millions to billions.

Public recordWe found no public page that names the companies or gives the figures, so this stays his own account.

    Experience

Host profileHaider: more than 15 years in ecommerce. Omer: since 2010.

Public recordProPakistani (2022, sponsored) described both as having a decade or more of experience.3

    Teaching

Host profileHaider teaches at Bahria, MAJU and COMSATS. Waleed teaches at UCP.

Public recordHaider’s teaching is listed in a 2022 ProPakistani article. Waleed’s UCP post appears in a directory listing.320

    Training scale

Host profileDeployers School has trained 80,000+ professionals.

Public recordFolklore Magazine repeats it, but it traces to the same organisation. The first 2022 seminar drew 400+ people.23

    Awards night

Host profileThe Global Digital Awards 2025 drew 95,000+ voters.

Public recordStartup Pakistan reports the figure, which is the organisers’ own count.4

    Career path

Host profileJahangir heads ecommerce at Insignia and is moving to Clive.

Public recordDeployers and TheOrg list him as head of ecommerce at Stylo from November 2022. The Clive move was not visible in the pages we checked.1817

    Eight habits to borrow

    • Study it, run it, teach it. Haider’s path pairs a thesis with years in retail.
    • Build a community before you need one. Omer went from seminars to a school to an association.
    • Talk to the people who make the rules. PEA exists because regulation, payments and logistics shape every seller.
    • Master the technical basics. Speed, SEO and a clean checkout are Jahangir’s territory.
    • Know more than one route. Waleed works across Shopify, dropshipping, Amazon and Etsy.
    • Teach what you do. Haider and Waleed teach in universities, and Omer runs a training school.
    • Let outside data check your instincts. Set what a guest says beside what the numbers say.
    • Show up where practitioners gather. Seminars, summits and award nights are where partnerships start.
